Visiting Research Scientist - Astronomy

Job Summary

Conduct research and data compilation on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V (SDSS-V) project.

• Independently conduct and manage data compilation and experiments, related to total astral observations and luminosity changes over time
• Design and maintain custom software and hardware for Sloan Digital Sky Survey data acquisition and analysis
• Assist in managing Sloan Digital Sky Survey project processes alongside PI
• Train students and mentor student-workers on research tactics and data analysis techniques

• Ph.D. in Astronomy

• Experience in observational processes and research
• Knowledge of modernized Astronomy software
• Ability to clearly communicate results and their importance
• Ability to assume responsibility and to work independently with minimum guidance
• Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, and students from a wide variety of disciplines

This is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $63,. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization. Fully remote work may be possible for this position per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
