Lead Archaeological Field Technician II (Temporary 3 months)
Antiquity Consulting is seeking a temporary Lead Archaeological Field Technician II to support cultural resources projects throughout the southern Puget Sound region. This position is intended to provide coverage during an employee leave of absence and may transition to a permanent full‑time role after three months depending on staffing needs.
Compensation & BenefitsHourly pay range: $25–29 per hour based on skills and experience. All employees accrue paid personal and sick time. Fieldwork travel time is compensated, mileage reimbursed at GSA rates, and overnight accommodation is paid directly, with a per diem at GSA rates on overnight days. The company provides all necessary fieldwork equipment.
Responsibilities- Conduct archaeological surveys (shovel probing, pedestrian survey, and excavation units) in western Washington.
- Work independently in the field, leading small crews under delegated survey plans.
- Maintain accurate field records and produce maps and figures for cultural resource assessment reports.
- Make professional decisions with the support of project archaeologists and conduct background historical and archival research.
- Assist with laboratory tasks, equipment organization, and field gear maintenance as needed.
- Minimum of a BA/BS in Archaeology or a related field; four‑year degree (or in progress) preferred for entry‑level technician roles.
- Experience in western Washington archaeological survey, including shovel probing, pedestrian survey, and excavation units.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a small team in challenging field conditions.
- Formal training and professional experience using Esri GIS software.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds and travel extended distances, often off‑trail, and manage personal supplies and equipment.
- Reliable transportation available for work in the Tumwater office.

Based in Tumwater, WA, with fieldwork primarily in Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Lewis, Cowlitz, Pierce, and King counties. Approximately 75% field‑based, 25% office‑based. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 36 hours per week, from July through September 2026. Fieldwork days are 8 hours in winter and 9 hours in spring/summer/fall. Remote work is unavailable.
