The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft () is one of the world's leading organizations for applied research. 74 institutes develop pioneering technologies for our economy and society – specifically, 30,000 people from technology, science, administration, and IT. They know:
Those who come to Fraunhofer want and can make a difference. For themselves, for us, and for the markets of today and tomorrow. Plants form the basis of all life on Earth. They are indispensable for the preservation of habitats and biodiversity, our sustainable supply of food and raw materials, and for stabilizing the global climate. Their development as high-yield crops and their adaptation to new environmental conditions, as well as their use for the production of valuable plant-based biopolymers and secondary metabolites, require a precise knowledge of the involved developmental and metabolic pathways, in order to be able to modify and optimize them in a targeted manner.
This challenge is met by the Functional and Applied Genomics Department of the Fraunhofer IME. The knowledge gained forms the basis for innovative and knowledge-based plant breeding and the production of novel functional biomolecules. Here you will make a difference.
