Responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data. Conduct experiments using advanced semiconductor fabrication and characterization equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures; plan and execute the details of experiments according to research protocol.
The Research Associate will conduct research on semiconductor heterostructure devices, electronic materials, device physics, and heterogeneous integration in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas candidate should be able to design and carry out experiments involving semiconductor device fabrication, electrical characterization, materials and interface characterization, data analysis, and interpretation of device and material properties.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Candidates who have successfully completed all requirements for the Ph.D. but whose degree has not yet been formally conferred may be eligible to begin employment provided they submit an official letter from the Registrar or Graduate School of the degree-granting institution certifying that all doctoral requirements have been satisfied and specifying the expected date of conferral. Appointment and continued employment are contingent upon formal conferral of the Ph.D.
Preferred
Education and Experience
Preference will be given to applicants with solid doctoral research experience and/or industry research experience in semiconductor devices, semiconductor heterostructures, electronic materials, device physics, microfabrication, and heterogeneous integration.
Experience with cleanroom processing, lithography, thin film deposition, metal deposition, etching, device fabrication, electrical characterization, materials characterization, and analysis of semiconductor transport or device performance is preferred.
Experience preparing manuscripts, technical reports, conference presentations, and research proposals is preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills are expected.
The candidate should be able to write technical reports and articles in English, prepare research presentations, maintain research documentation, and communicate effectively. Familiarity with semiconductor device physics, cleanroom fabrication, thin film processing, lithography, metallization, etching, electrical transport measurements, and data analysis is preferred.
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate is required to conduct experimental research on semiconductor heterostructure devices and related electronic materials. Responsibilities include designing and fabricating device structures, preparing material and interface samples, performing electrical and materials characterization, analyzing transport and device performance, and interpreting results in the context of device physics and heterogeneous integration. Familiarity with semiconductor device physics, cleanroom microfabrication, thin film processing, lithography, metallization, etching, electrical measurements, and data analysis is necessary.
The candidate should be able to write technical reports and articles in English, prepare research presentations, maintain laboratory records, assist with proposal and grant project reports, and communicate effectively. The candidate will also help coordinate laboratory operations, support safe use of shared equipment, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory.
