Job Summary
A full‑time research technician position is available in the Kaczorowski lab in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The lab focuses on rodent modeling of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease. The successful applicant will serve as the lab’s research colony manager, overseeing transgenic mouse colonies, animal care, behavioral assays, genotyping, and weaning.
The role also involves mentoring undergraduate research assistants and junior technicians, and providing training and guidance as needed.
- Facilitate day‑to‑day research laboratory operations, including weaning and submitting genotyping plates to Transnetyx.
- Serve as the point of contact for biannual IACUC inspections, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage the laboratory’s LIMBS system and Rock Step’s Climb Platform to ensure accurate tracking and identification of metadata associated with research activities.
- Facilitate animal research for faculty, students, and postdocs, and assist as needed.
- Coordinate with the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine (ULAM) and the research team.
- Maintain mouse colonies, including supervision of genotyping and genetic crosses.
- Onboard and train users in lab protocols, equipment operation, and standard techniques.
- Participate in periodic research discussions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, based on research or lab needs.
- Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree required and 2–3 years of experience in a related field.
- Lead Level: Bachelor’s degree required and 3+ years of experience in a related field.
Both levels require at least 2 years of hands‑on experience in mouse handling and husbandry, including weaning, genotyping, routine cage maintenance, and health monitoring.
Desired Qualifications- Proficiency with Excel (training is provided).
- Experience with laboratory management systems.
