Overview

The Grant Writing Specialist supports grant development and research administration for the Departments of Student Health and Wellness and Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia, including the Critical Incident Analysis Group. The role involves leading grant application preparation across federal, state, and private funding sources; identifying funding opportunities; and providing post-award support and reporting. This is a hybrid position based in Charlottesville, Virginia, with opportunities for remote work after onboarding.

• Lead grant application preparation across federal, state, and private funding sources.
• Identify funding opportunities and develop strategies to pursue them.
• Provide post-award support and reporting as required.
• Collaborate with departments and stakeholders to ensure compliance with sponsor and institutional requirements.

• Associate's degree minimum (Bachelor's or Master's preferred in public health, health sciences, or related field).
• Two to five years of relevant grant writing, contracts, or research administration experience, depending on level.
• Strong scientific writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate complex research for specialist and non-specialist audiences.
• Proficiency with federal grant mechanisms (NIH, CDC, HRSA, DOJ/BJA) and electronic submission systems (Grants.gov, eRA Commons).
• Project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Familiarity with IRB protocol preparation and research compliance documentation.
