Salary and HoursTarget Annual Salary: $55,000. Full‑time, 1.0 FTE. Standard schedule (Monday‑Friday, 8:00‑17:00). 2‑year appointment contingent upon external funding.
Job SummaryThe Onion Breeding and Genetics Research Program at NMSU seeks a postdoctoral researcher to work on several research projects and manage day‑to‑day program operations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
- Oversee and conduct research activities across multiple projects.
- Assist in technical support for delegated projects.
- Create new funding opportunities by preparing and submitting proposals to national agencies.
- Manage program operations, including growing onions for bulb and seed production, managing physical and financial resources, and supervising student employees.
- Collect data, perform statistical analysis, prepare manuscripts, project reports, and grant proposals.
- Work in both field and laboratory settings under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Cramer.

- Ph.D. in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Plant Genetics, Crop Production, Plant Physiology, or Plant Pathology.
- Experience with plant pathology, plant breeding, plant genetics, crop production, and statistical analysis.
- Experience working in field and laboratory settings.
- Experience with student supervision and management.
- Computer knowledge and SAS programming skills.
- Excellent writing, data presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to speak Spanish (moderate to fluent).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
- Field conditions can be hot, cold, dry, wet, and/or dirty; remote work not available.
- Requires substantial physical effort; lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Exposure to sun and other hazards; basic safety precautions required.
