Salary and Hours

Target Annual Salary: $55,000. Full‑time, 1.0 FTE. Standard schedule (Monday‑Friday, 8:00‑17:00). 2‑year appointment contingent upon external funding.

Job Summary

The Onion Breeding and Genetics Research Program at NMSU seeks a postdoctoral researcher to work on several research projects and manage day‑to‑day program operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
  • Oversee and conduct research activities across multiple projects.
  • Assist in technical support for delegated projects.
  • Create new funding opportunities by preparing and submitting proposals to national agencies.
  • Manage program operations, including growing onions for bulb and seed production, managing physical and financial resources, and supervising student employees.
  • Collect data, perform statistical analysis, prepare manuscripts, project reports, and grant proposals.
  • Work in both field and laboratory settings under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Cramer.
Requirements
  • Required Education
    :
    Doctorate degree in a related field.
  • Required Experience
    :
    None required.
  • Salary
    : $55,000 per year.
  • Contingent Funding
    :
    Position contingent upon external funding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Plant Genetics, Crop Production, Plant Physiology, or Plant Pathology.
  • Experience with plant pathology, plant breeding, plant genetics, crop production, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience working in field and laboratory settings.
  • Experience with student supervision and management.
  • Computer knowledge and SAS programming skills.
  • Excellent writing, data presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish (moderate to fluent).
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Field conditions can be hot, cold, dry, wet, and/or dirty; remote work not available.
  • Requires substantial physical effort; lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
  • Exposure to sun and other hazards; basic safety precautions required.
