Research Scientist, Data Scientist
The Alaska Earthquake Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to research and development focused on the seismic assessment of landslides using seismology and complementary techniques. The successful candidate will work with a collaborative team of scientists and operational monitoring staff to develop new approaches for detecting, characterizing, and understanding landslides using seismic, geodetic, remote sensing, and other environmental datasets.
This position offers opportunities to pursue independent research while contributing to applied science that supports natural hazard monitoring and public safety across Alaska.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in seismology, geophysics, environmental hazards, or related Earth science disciplines. They should be comfortable working with large datasets and time-series observations and have experience with scientific programming, data analysis, and computational methods. In addition to seismology, experience in machine learning, remote sensing, image analysis, geodesy, or the development of real-time monitoring and detection systems is desirable.
The candidate should enjoy solving complex scientific problems, be motivated to develop innovative approaches for understanding natural hazards, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively while communicating scientific results effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geophysics, Seismology, Earth Science, Physics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field at the time of appointment.
Position Details:
This position is full-time, term-funded, exempt, 9 + 3-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
