Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology (Pharm Tox) and the Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health (CSM DPH) invite applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of environmental toxicology. The candidate will study environmental contaminants and their relation to public health, focusing on U.S. and Midwest contexts, and develop an independent research program funded by NIH or other federal sources.

The position is shared by MSU College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will devote approximately 60% of time to community‑engaged research on environmental contaminants, including wet‑lab or computational studies of how exposure is distributed across populations and methods to reduce their effects on socially and medically vulnerable groups. Approximately 30% of time will be dedicated to outreach and service, fostering relationships with disproportionately impacted communities, incorporating their priorities into research, and engaging in environmental policy advocacy or stewardship.

The remaining 10% will involve developing and teaching environmental toxicology modules for the Pharm Tox MS program and the MPH program in the CSM DPH.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctorate in Toxicology, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field (Ph.D., Sc.D., Dr.P.H., or equivalent).
  • Research expertise in methods to understand and reduce the effects of environmental contaminants and in strategies to advance public health.

Desired:

  • Experience conducting community‑engaged research and collaborating with communities impacted by environmental hazards.
  • Evidence of a funded independent research program (NIH or other federal sources).
Required Application Materials
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Cover letter (≤3 pages) describing proposed research program, history or plans for community‑engaged research, teaching philosophy, and motivation for applying to MSU.
  • Research statement (≤2 pages) outlining prior research, proposed research program, and potential synergies with Pharm Tox and CSM DPH.
  • List of three references (search committee will not contact references without notifying the candidate).
Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, age, disability or protected veteran status.

Remote Work Statement

MSU has designated the position as remote‑friendly; some or all duties may be performed remotely as mutually agreed upon.
