Salary: $67,184.00 - $95,409.60 Per Year**(This includes a 5.5% Salary Adjustment)

BRIEF

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will perform scientific data collection and analysis responsible for classification of shellfish harvesting areas along the western coast of Maine according to the State of Maine Regulations, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program.

Specific duties include:

Maintaining requirements for current shellfish growing area classifications

Acting as a primary boat operator for the Water Quality program

Collecting seawater samples from the NH border to the Penobscot River by boat and land Performing analysis and data QAQC for all water quality data Management and emergency event response for conditional areas

Report writing and review

Staff training and supervision

Identifying pollution sources through shoreline survey

Additional duties will include field scheduling, maintaining small boats, weekly office duties, and other scientific work as needed. This position will require working closely with the Nearshore Marine Resource Scientists, the general public, town and municipal officials, volunteers and other state and federal departments. Work is performed under limited supervision.

There will be some remote work opportunities with this position after management approval and following the DMR Telework Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Intermediary education, training, or experience in a scientific, technical, engineering field, or a related field with demonstrated experience in the field of marine resource research and/or management or another related field. Previous experience in a supervisory capacity is preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of coastal oceanography and associated environmental pollution issues, analytical skills, database management and computer skills (preferably ACCESS, GIS, and R-coding experience). Small boat handling and trailering experience as well as excellent written and oral communication skills will be required. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
