This part-time, remote internship offers students and recent graduates hands‑on experience conducting quantitative healthcare research focused on pharmacy outcomes and policy. Interns will contribute to real‑world evidence studies across areas such as comparative effectiveness, medication access and affordability, healthcare utilization and costs, benefit design, and pharmacy policy, while gaining experience communicating findings to Humana stakeholders.
Humana Healthcare Research:The mission of Humana Healthcare Research (HHR) is to produce high‑quality, actionable evidence through the design and execution of research studies, as well as strategic interpretation of findings. HHR aims to produce research that informs how to improve health outcomes, guides Humana’s strategy, and advances the body of knowledge for both the scientific community and society at large.
Areas of focus include pharmacy comparative effectiveness research; health policy, payment and care delivery; and access to care. HHR maintains external partnerships with industry, government, and academia to produce research that is relevant to ongoing problems. We’re a team of research professionals passionate about combining and analyzing diverse types of primary and secondary data.
The Fall Internship is a 16–20‑week immersive, professional research learning experience for students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in quantitative healthcare research. This intern position is tailored to support pharmacy‑oriented health outcomes and pharmacy policy research. The intern will gain experience with real‑world evidence generation through the design and conduct of research studies including comparative effectiveness, disease characterization, treatment patterns analysis, cost and healthcare utilization analysis, medication access and affordability, pharmacy benefit design, utilization management, and pharmacy policy evaluation.
The intern will participate in synthesizing, communicating, and presenting research findings to Humana stakeholders.
This is a part‑time, remote position starting in November through Feb/March. Interns will have the opportunity to apply and strengthen their research skills in a supportive environment among a multi‑disciplinary team of research experts. Use your skills to make an impact Position ResponsibilitiesThe HHR Intern will participate in study team(s) and support research activities. Responsibilities will include some or all of the following:
Contributing to study conceptualization, literature reviews, proposal writing.
Study protocol development.
Executing statistical analysis per specifications in study protocol and under supervision of experienced research scientists.
Reporting and interpretation of results.
Contributing to manuscript development.
Required:
Currently pursuing (final‑year student) or recently completed PhD in pharmacy, outcomes research, epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, health economics, public health or health services research.
Knowledge in quantitative health outcomes research, analytics, and statistical techniques.
Knowledge of causal inference methods or completion of relevant course work on quasi‑experimental methods (e.g., propensity score analysis, inverse probability treatment weighting, interrupted time series analysis, regression discontinuity designs, instrumental variable analysis, and/or causal mediation analysis).
Ability to commit to at least part‑time employment for 16 to 20 weeks beginning in November 2026.
