Overview

The Store Manager is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the store, including training, directing and monitoring all department staff. Applications are accepted by the date below, which may be updated if the hiring timeline is extended.

Responsibilities
  • Customers are greeted and serviced per company standards of World Class customer service, and staff are trained to provide exemplary customer service.
  • Leaders are expected to be professional at all times, provide appropriate leadership for staff and the store, and motivate toward high performance while treating people decently.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of respect and integrity in day-to-day actions with employees, customers, vendors and outside contacts.
  • Handle customer complaints appropriately and per company policy.
  • Maintain an inviting and shoppable store; ensure products customers want to buy are in-stock.
  • Handle special orders appropriately and per company policy.
  • Ensure the phone is answered per company standards and that staff and the store are supported on the sales floor at least 75% of the time.
  • Train staff to deliver exemplary customer service and ensure accountability.
  • Ensure staff compliance with applicable state and/or county food safety certifications and registrations.
  • Meet and/or exceed store and department sales, Sales per Labor Hour Ratio, Average Ticket, Customer Count, Cost of Goods Sold for Produce and EBITDA targets.
  • Order products from correct vendors to receive correct discounts and maintain margins.
  • Rotate and stock perishables per company standards; manage markdowns per company standards.
  • Oversee store operations and assist customers across all areas; supervise staff assignments and daily scheduling; post schedules in a timely manner.
  • Partner with department managers to share staff, cross-train, and ensure adequate product knowledge to meet customers’ needs.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations and grant wage increases when appropriate in accordance with company standards.
  • Interview and hire for store needs with input from department managers; address performance and disciplinary issues with Human Resources support.
  • Maintain clear and direct communication with store staff, conduct monthly staff meetings, and post company information and announcements.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed at all times and manage occasional disruptions to daily business (e.g., loiterers, solicitation, weather, bathroom misuse).
  • Proactively hire, train and develop store staff, department managers and Assistant Store Managers for future store management positions.
  • Train new store management in proper store and department operations; encourage staff to increase nutritional and product knowledge and train on new products.
  • Answer customer questions per company standards; monitor all departments and hold department managers accountable for store operational duties.
  • Complete daily schedules, checklists, opening and closing duties; ensure timely completion of store paperwork and reports (including Monthly Manager’s Report).
  • Accurately complete the DSR and Manager's Cash; communicate issues with the home office and ensure resolution; maintain store appearance and cleanliness.
  • Respond quickly to department manager calls when on duty and assist with coverage for lunches and breaks.
  • Work schedule may include evenings and weekends; typical schedule is 45 hours per week, with flexibility required to ensure proper store coverage.
  • Store managers should be on the sales floor at least 75% of the time to assist customers and direct staff.
  • Support decisions from the home office and follow directions; read and follow communications from home office; remain flexible to changing work demands to accomplish goals.

Qualifications

Recipe for Success:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1-2 years of management experience in grocery and/or related retail experience; natural foods industry a plus
  • Ability to manage changing priorities
  • Ability to pass applicable food safety training
