GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The Technical & Packaging Sales Manager reports to the Vice President of Packaging and Technical Sales and is responsible for maintaining existing accounts, growing profitable sales volumes in technical and food packaging markets, and designing and deploying effective customer management and new business development strategies. The manager executes prospecting plans, turns prospects into increased business, and develops a pipeline of new business aligning with company strategy.
NATUREAND SCOPE OF POSITION
The role is home-based with no direct reports. It covers existing account coverage, product segments, and developing relationships with new clients, setting sales targets, and improving customer relationships. The manager works with sales, technical, product development, marketing, and operations teams.

WORKING CONDITIONSThe manager spends 50% of the time in the field.
SPECIFICACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prospect for new clients and translate prospects into business.
- Cold call within a market or geographic area to build a robust pipeline of opportunities.
- Identify potential clients and decision makers within the client’s organization.
- Arrange meetings between client decision makers and company leaders.
- Plan sales approaches and pitches, collaborating with sales management on proposals.
- Participate in pricing the solution/service.
- Handle objections by clarifying agreement and negotiating.
- Present a professional image that reflects the client.
- Proactively present new products and services to enhance existing relationships for client retention.
- Work with technical staff and internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
- Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.
- Ensure accurate data entry in the CRM or other sales management system.
- Forecast sales targets and achieve them.
- Coordinate with customer service, marketing and demand planning to meet prerequisites (e.g., onboarding documents, credit forms, inventory programs).
- Minimum 3-5 years in technical or packaging sales or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Preferred experience in forest products or business-to-business sales.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and ).
- Ability to travel extensively as needed.
- Proven track record of delivering sales results, identifying new customers, and quickly growing business.
- Comfort interacting with all levels of customer organizations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Negotiation and channel conflict management abilities.
- Strong organization, planning, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to anticipate future trends and make proactive decisions.
- Adaptability to an unstructured environment and shifting priorities.
- Ability to work within a matrix organization, involving colleagues across functions and geography.
