Position: Sales Representative (Coastal Carolina & Savannah Territory)

Responsibilities
  • Preplanning a daily schedule of sales calls for each campus.
  • Conducting interviews following all sales training parameters established by the immediate supervisor.
  • Delivering appropriate sales materials on a timely basis (including complimentary books, marketing brochures, letters, software demos).
  • Accomplishing required/requested servicing activities (including campus bookstores) promptly.
  • Managing company CRM tool accurately, including customer information, contacts, sales opportunities, and pipelines.
  • Responding promptly, in writing, through email, or by phone to requests made by customers or Macmillan personnel.
  • Traveling to assigned accounts (approximately 35 hours/week) to conduct personal sales interviews.
  • Developing and executing selling techniques to effectively promote Macmillan Learning Products, visiting 12–15 decision makers per campus per day.
  • Serving new customers within the assigned territories for the first year. (Existing customers are served by the Account Manager.)
  • Making weekly telephone calls to the assigned sales manager.
  • Submitting required sales tracking, sampling, and daily Salesforce reporting.
  • Submitting travel and entertainment expense reports on a timely basis.
  • Providing feedback on market trends, market reaction to our books, and competitors.
  • Planning quarterly/semester travel itineraries that increase sales production within the assigned territories.
  • Organizing a home office to enhance accessibility to customers.
  • Allocating sampling budgets and travel/entertainment budgets effectively to increase productivity throughout the sales year.
  • Monitoring operational expenses within the territory.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Direct sales experience; publishing experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a sales team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to thrive in a self‑starting environment.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, working in an academic environment.
  • Proficiency with computers and basic application software.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel and work more than 40 hours per week when necessary (typically during fall and spring selling seasons).

  • Passion for continuous learning and professional development, particularly in sales innovation, technology adoption, and emerging market trends.
  • Creativity in sales approach, utilizing data‑driven insights, AI‑powered tools, or new digital platforms to drive business growth.
  • Demonstrated autonomy in identifying opportunities, taking initiative, and driving outcomes, even in ambiguous or high‑pressure situations.
Salary

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 per year.

Exemption Status

Exempt.

Physical Requirements

Requires periods of close concentration. Must be able to multi‑task, concentrate in an open office environment, and travel occasionally. Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week as needed.
