About the role/team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Strategic Sales Manager to join the Corporate Payments Commercial Team. This role will be accountable for developing new direct business opportunities across the Company’s Corporate Payments product portfolio in North America, focusing on direct-to-corporate optimization of B2B payments sourced from AP systems and identifying new payment verticals for virtual cards. The position is an individual contributor suited for an experienced, results‑oriented professional with a consultative sales approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and qualify opportunities where virtual cards can be utilized for B2B payments.
  • Develop creative approaches to target companies and initiate contact with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Manage the complete sales cycle from lead generation and initial prospect contact through to successful closing and follow‑up sales activities.
  • Effectively communicate WEX’s market proposition, interpret client needs, propose suitable solutions, and build strong client relationships across stakeholders.
  • Prepare high‑quality presentations and proposals for new business pitches and bid opportunities.
  • Negotiate contracts, provide timely and accurate revenue forecasting, and report regularly.
  • Collaborate with internal operations teams to optimize the sales process and ensure smooth delivery of client services.
  • Maintain accurate data in Salesforce and account management systems.
  • Work from home while traveling approximately 30‑40% of the time to meet prospects and visit headquarters.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 6–10 years of direct sales, account and/or channel management experience.
  • Proven record of generating own leads and a hunter mentality.
  • B2B payment experience and knowledge of the virtual payment industry (substantial plus).
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial services and complex solution sales processes.
  • Ability to participate in strategy development and lead attainment of critical objectives.
  • Track record of managing business development activities to achieve growth targets and exceeding annual sales quotas.
  • Strong relationship building from senior executives to technical contacts.
  • Demonstrated trust, accountability, collaboration among internal and external stakeholders, and teamwork.
  • Skilled at presenting ideas effectively to individuals or groups.
