Business Development Manager – Automotive (Plastics / Decorative Components)
My client is a privately held, employee‑owned (ESOP) manufacturer specializing in decorative plastic injection molded and die‑cast components. They are very established and have been in business for several decades with a great reputation. Their focus is on value‑added, appearance‑driven products used in automotive interiors and appliance applications. They move fast, make decisions quickly, and have strong internal alignment across engineering, operations, and leadership to win new business.
Aboutthe Role
This is not an account management role. If you’re looking to inherit a book of business, this isn’t it. This is a true business development position focused on building new relationships and winning new business from scratch.
This role is focused on identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within Automotive and Appliance markets.
Responsibilities- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within Automotive and Appliance markets
- Build a pipeline from scratch through cold outreach, networking, and strategic targeting
- Develop relationships with Tier 1 suppliers and key decision‑makers
- Generate and manage RFQs and lead opportunities through the sales process
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to develop winning solutions
- Present proposals and negotiate commercial terms
- Travel to customer sites, industry events, and internal locations as needed
- Maintain a consistent focus on new business development and revenue growth
- 5+ years of B2B sales or business development experience in plastics or manufacturing
- Experience selling into Automotive (Tier 1 or Tier 2 suppliers) is required
- Proven ability to generate and close new business
- Comfortable prospecting, cold outreach, and building relationships from zero
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Willingness to travel (25–50%)
- Uncapped commission with strong earning potential
