Territory:
East Texas and Louisiana

About the Role

Are you passionate about equine nutrition and love helping horse owners achieve better results with their animals? As a Nutritional Sales Consultant for Bluebonnet Feeds, you will serve as a trusted advisor to farms, trainers, veterinarians, and retailers across East Texas and Louisiana. This is a highly independent, entrepreneurial-style role. You will own and run your entire territory with significant autonomy.

You are expected to “figure it out” every day — proactively identifying opportunities, solving problems on the spot, making decisions, and building your book of business with minimal daily supervision. Success depends on your initiative, persistence, and ability to operate like a business owner within your territory. You’ll combine deep knowledge of equine nutrition with strong relationship-building skills to understand each customer’s unique challenges and goals.

Your role is to deliver tailored nutrition solutions using Bluebonnet’s science-backed feeds and supplements, solve real operational problems, and drive mutual success in a supportive, team-oriented culture that values trust, personal responsibility, and results. Bluebonnet Feeds is a subsidiary of Standard Nutrition Company, which has been serving the animal nutrition industry with integrity for over 135 years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular sales calls and farm visits to existing customers and qualified prospects, including horse farms, boarding facilities, trainers, veterinarians, and independent retail stores.
  • Represent and promote Bluebonnet Feeds’ premium equine nutrition products and supplements, positioning them as science-based solutions for performance, health, and wellness.
  • Evaluate customers’ current feeding programs, identify nutritional opportunities or challenges, and recommend customized solutions that improve horse health and owner outcomes.
  • Deliver on-site nutrition education, product training, and field marketing activities to help customers implement effective feeding strategies.
  • Proactively manage and grow your assigned territory as if it were your own business.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, prospects, and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with the broader sales team to share best practices and support territory growth when needed.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities efficiently, including call reporting, territory planning, and follow-up from a home office.
  • Stay current with advances in equine nutrition, industry trends, and competitor activity.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Equine Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of field sales experience, preferably in the equine, livestock nutrition, or agricultural industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of equine nutrition and the equine industry (hands‑on experience with horses or feeding programs is highly preferred).
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take full ownership of a territory, and “figure it out” to drive results.
  • Persuasive presentation and consultative selling abilities.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills — you enjoy analyzing situations and developing practical, mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Persistent, self‑starter mindset with the drive to independently pursue and close opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team‑first attitude and commitment to personal responsibility.
  • Willingness and ability to stay up to date on the latest equine nutrition research and industry developments.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness/ability to travel extensively within the territory (overnight travel averaging 2–3 nights per week).
  • 80–90% of your time will be spent in the field working directly with customers and prospects.
  • 10–20% will be dedicated to planning, administration, reporting, and attending company or industry events (from a home office).
  • Overnight travel is required (average of 2–3 nights per week).
  • You must be highly self‑motivated, organized, and comfortable operating with significant autonomy while still contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a competitive base salary, performance‑based incentives, benefits package, and vehicle allowance.

What We Offer
  • Join a company with a proud heritage in animal nutrition and a forward‑looking focus on science, quality, and horse health. You’ll have the autonomy to truly own and build your territory, the support of a strong team when needed, and the satisfaction of helping horses and their owners thrive every day.
