Position: Account Manager, West Coast (REMOTE)

The Account Manager leads the commercial strategy for USP’s portfolio of standards and materials in a West Coast United States territory. This non‑supervisory role is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market presence, and accelerating USP’s impact across the pharmaceutical industry in the United States. It is a remote position with 60 % domestic travel and a preferred location of Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

Revenue Growth
  • Achieve revenue and unit growth targets for the assigned territory and accounts.
  • Develop and execute plans to protect current revenue streams and acquire new customers. Manage sales activities in Salesforce CRM.
  • Collaborate with support functions (Marketing, Inside Sales, Scientific Affairs) to support revenue‑growth initiatives.
  • Identify and influence key decision makers toward USP products and services.
  • Follow up on sales‑qualified leads.
  • Unlock opportunities to position USP as a leader in pharmaceutical drug standards.
Customer Engagement
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with customers at all levels, positioning USP as a trusted advisor to developers and manufacturers.
  • Partner with customers to understand and address critical quality challenges in drug development and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with Scientific Affairs, Science, and Marketing teams to deliver seamless and differentiated customer experiences, including organizing events.
  • Attend industry trade shows, conferences, and professional forums to elevate USP’s visibility and influence.
Data‑Driven Insights & Sales Intelligence
  • Use Salesforce CRM and data analytics to track sales performance and inform actions.
  • Analyze and interpret territory sales data—direct and through distributors—to identify revenue opportunities and provide strategic business reviews.
  • Gather and consolidate market and customer feedback, providing actionable recommendations to Global Marketing and Strategy teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably analytical chemistry or chemistry) with a minimum of five years professional experience in the life sciences industry.
  • At least three years of experience as an account manager in the life sciences industry, with a proven track record of consistently meeting sales targets.
  • Proven experience selling products or services to pharma and biopharma accounts (PD labs and QC labs is a target function).
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical drug manufacturing, QA/QC, and clinical development processes.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a customer‑centric approach.
  • Bias toward action and results, with a track record of successful outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with customers.
  • Strong time‑management, multi‑tasking, and organizational skills.
  • Accountability and ownership of work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working in a fast‑paced multi‑task environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data analytics platforms (e.g. Tableau), and CRM (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Ability and desire to work well with diverse employees and customers in a cooperative and friendly manner.
Additional Desired Preferences
  • Master’s degree preferred, especially in business or science with an MBA.
  • Ability to gain customer confidence and build long‑term relationships.
  • Excellent listening and stakeholder‑insight skills, with creative solutions.
  • Team player who is self‑motivated with strong interpersonal skills and works well in a collaborative entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong project‑management and communication skills.
  • Experience with regulatory, quality assurance, or GMP background.
  • Existing relationships with decision makers in the pharmaceutical markets preferred (manufacturers, trade associations, retailers).

Compensation

Base salary range: $99,000 – $150,000 annually.
