What we're seeking:

We are hiring a Director of Field Sales to lead an existing team of Regional Sales Managers who sell our portfolio of nutrient‑use efficiency products, with a specific emphasis on SOURCE and BLUEPRINT. The role requires active coaching and activation of the team through ride‑alongs, windshield time, and regular meetings. The Director owns all revenue targets within their assigned region and works closely with Sales Leadership, Marketing, Product, and Agronomy to drive revenue, product performance, and retention.

This is a remote position based in the South region (ideally in KS, NE, AR, or MO) and requires 40%+ travel. Candidates must reside in one of the states within the assigned territory to be considered.

Compensation Target

$200,000 to $225,000 on‑target earnings (one‑hundred‑fifteen thousand to one‑hundred‑sixty‑five thousand dollars base salary, plus fifty‑thousand to sixty‑thousand dollars variable commission target). Commission targets are uncapped and measured by sales against quota, with accelerators that increase commission to 125% above target. Commissions are earned and paid annually.

In addition to on‑target earnings, we offer above‑average equity grants.

Responsibilities

Sales Team Leadership and Development (70%)

  • Build and develop a best‑in‑class sales team by recruiting, training, and mentoring high‑performing sales professionals.
  • Manage employee performance by creating clear expectations and coaching individuals on skill gaps.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and quarterly check‑ins to assess progress toward development goals.
  • Perform weekly or bi‑weekly 1‑on‑1s with team members to provide guidance on forecasting, pipeline management, and coaching.
  • Conduct regular coaching sessions focused on refining pitch delivery; perform monthly ride‑alongs to visit accounts and provide real‑time feedback.

Sales Strategy and Execution (20%)

  • Meet or exceed team sales goals for Sound’s nutrient efficiency business.
  • Provide hands‑on support to sales team members by assisting in deal strategy, tactics, and closing deals.
  • Build and manage relationships with key dealers to promote products and services aligned with our mission.
  • Ensure dealer and customer retention, growth, and increased use of SOURCE on the farm.

Cross‑functional Collaboration (10%)

  • Collaborate with Marketing to create content and launch digital and field campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Technical Agronomy and Product Management to share field feedback, pilot new products, and refine positioning.
  • Collaborate with Sustainability to align on local sustainability programs and opportunities.

Targeted Skills & Experience

  • Considerable experience in sales management, including recruiting, hiring, training, and coaching high‑performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success achieving sales and revenue targets in the crop inputs space.
  • Knowledge of sales methodology, tools, and techniques; willingness to co‑sell and lead by example.
  • Experience introducing and selling product lines in new markets, collaborating with supporting functions.
  • Knowledge or training in a specialized, technical, or professional discipline such as Agronomy, Plant Science, Marketing, or related field.
  • Experience partnering with cross‑functional teams to build and execute strategic objectives.
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, or similar tools.
  • Comfort working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with adaptability to change.
  • Proven leadership skills in motivating sales teams and achieving revenue growth.
