Overview

Takeda is seeking a Regional Business Director to lead our Gastroenterology Rare Disease Sales Team across the Great Lakes region (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee). In this role you will manage and coach a team of Regional Business Managers, overseeing sales activities and driving achievement of business unit sales objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, implement, and oversee sales representative activities and policies for the region.
  • Implement marketing strategies and plans at the regional level to meet quarterly and yearly company sales objectives.
  • Review sales plan implementation on a quarterly basis and ensure objectives are being met.
  • Analyze assigned territories to identify opportunities for additional business and improve representative effectiveness.
  • Maintain in‑depth knowledge of local customers and customer networks.
  • Communicate personnel, product and market activity and issues to management.
  • Coordinate selling efforts with managed care and national accounts.
  • Set performance expectations and regularly observe, document, and provide feedback on sales representative performance.
  • Coach sales representatives to maximize performance and support their professional development.
  • Recruit, train, and manage performance of the regional sales team.
  • Manage expenses within the allocated budget.
  • Plan and conduct Power‑of‑Attorney/launch meetings in line with business unit marketing plans.
  • Serve as a liaison between the corporate office and field sales.

  • Think beyond daily implementation to anticipate future market and regional trends.
  • Proactively communicate with sales leadership, home office, and industry experts on trends, competitive intelligence, and regional performance.
  • Use analytical tools to track and monitor representative performance and support them in doing the same.
  • Set and pursue challenging goals for self and others, demonstrating commitment to the company vision and values.
  • Build morale, aspiration, and cohesion within the team.
  • Assess strengths and development needs of representatives, providing constructive performance feedback.
  • Develop authentic relationships with key customers and partners.
  • Show judgment and decision‑making that aligns with business strategy, balancing flexibility and creativity.
  • Embrace change and adjust strategies accordingly while maintaining overall plan adherence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA).
  • 3‑5 years of experience as a pharmaceutical representative with a proven track record of success.
  • Experience selling or managing representatives in an institutional environment.
  • Demonstrated business and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent coaching, delegating, and motivating abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills to develop actionable business plans.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Residency or close proximity to the assigned geography.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred:

  • 2‑3 years of pharmaceutical district management experience.
  • Product launch or turnaround experience.
  • Experience managing reps within the Rare Disease GI space.
  • MBA or master’s degree.
Licenses & Certifications

Valid driver’s license required.

Travel Requirements

Some overnight travel may be required depending on territory; overnight travel for meetings and presentations. Evening and weekend work may be required as needed. Work is primarily from a home office when not traveling.
