Job Description
The Retirement Plans Sales Specialist is an internal sales support position whose primary responsibility is to use technical retirement plan expertise to help advisors with sales strategies, plan selection, rules/regulations and appropriate solutions via consultative inbound calls to drive sales.
Key Responsibilities- Cover the inbound phone queue and make outbound calls and case work to support the partnered region.
- Ensure a high level of advisor satisfaction by responding to inbound calls and emails to provide technical expertise on sales strategies, rules/regulations, and solutions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for team members and internal stakeholders.
- Provide flexibility in queue coverage to ensure proper staffing, participate in team meetings, and handle other team needs.
- Maintain strong working relationships with product partners, marketing, sales strategy and retirement sales teams.
- Accurately track all activity in
- Partner with subject matter experts across and outside the firm to continually improve the quality of advice, support development of new strategies, and maintain existing processes, tools, and services.
- Utilize Microsoft Teams for advisor sales interactions when needed.
- Complete required coursework to maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and licenses.
- IRAs (Traditional, Roth and Inherited)
- Business Retirement Plans (401(k), 457, SEP and Simple IRAs)
- 403(b) and defined benefit plans
- RMD and SEPP calculations
- Retirement Accumulation and Distribution Strategies (articulated rollovers, net unrealized appreciation, Roth conversions, in-service distributions, etc.)
- Retirement Income Strategies
- 5+ years’ experience in the financial services industry, financial sales, or financial wholesaling with proven phone skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Active Series7 license or ability to obtain within 120 days.
- Active state securities agent registration (S63 or S66) or ability to obtain within 120 days.
- Active state IAR registration (S65 or S66) or ability to obtain within 120 days.
- Clean compliance record.
- Proven ability to establish rapport and credibility quickly.
- Open to sales call coaching.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Independent self‑starter with strong teamwork orientation and relationship skills.
- Deep understanding of retirement plans (IRAs, qualified plans, cash balance plans).
- Certifications such as CFP, ChFC, CRPC, CRPS and RICP preferred or strong desire to achieve.
- Experience as a financial planner or advisor.
- Experience with the Ameriprise Financial product suite.
- Knowledge of the Ameriprise field structure.
- Demonstrated sales and coaching experience and understanding of the wholesaling process.
- Ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely with excellent telephone communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Work EnvironmentOur employees work in the office at least three (3) days per week, with flexibility to work from home two (2) days per week.
Compensation and BenefitsThe estimated base salary for this role is $80,000 – $95,000 per year. Compensation may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long‑term incentives may be applicable. Benefits include vacation time, sick time, 401(k), and health, dental and life insurance.
