Business Development Specialist (Remote) - Nexus
Nexus delivers turn-key workforce housing solutions — dining, vending, micro markets, facilities management, transportation, and security — to clients operating in remote or high-demand labor environments. We're looking for someone who thrives on building pipeline from scratch and opening doors with net-new prospects in an assigned geographic territory. This is a top-of-funnel, lead-generation role that supports the Director of Business Development (DBD).
You'll own prospecting, outreach, and qualification — surfacing and warming up opportunities — then hand them off to the DBD, who leads proposal strategy, negotiation, and close. This is not an account management role, and it's not a full-cycle closing role; it's the engine that keeps the DBD's pipeline full of qualified, well-prepared opportunities. This is a remote position; however, to maximize impact and effectiveness within the assigned territory, candidates should be based in Wyoming, Montana, or Colorado.
Job Responsibilities
- Prospect and build pipeline independently within your assigned territory — cold outreach, networking, referrals, industry events, and market research to identify net-new opportunities.
- Qualify opportunities against target criteria (need, budget, timeline, decision-making process) before handing them off, so the DBD's time is spent on warm, vetted conversations.
- Hit/exceed quarterly and annual lead-generation and pipeline-sourced quota — measured on qualified meetings booked and pipeline value generated, not closed revenue.
- Manage the warm hand-off to the DBD — briefing them on prospect context, needs, and stakeholders so they can step in seamlessly for proposal and close.
- Support the DBD through the sales cycle — helping prep proposals, gather competitive intelligence, and coordinate with internal resources (operations, pricing, legal, corporate) — without owning final pricing or contract decisions.
- Develop and execute a territory prospecting strategy, identifying target verticals and accounts and prioritizing where to invest outreach time for maximum pipeline yield.
- Maintain rigorous pipeline discipline in CRM — accurate stage tracking, activity logging, and hand-off documentation.
- Report market and competitive intelligence back to leadership and corporate to inform broader strategy.
What Success Looks Like
- Consistent quarter-over-quarter pipeline generation, not reliance on inherited or inbound leads
- High hand-off quality — qualified opportunities the team can move quickly on
- A healthy, accurately forecasted top-of-funnel pipeline at all times
Qualifications
- 5+ years of outside, quota-bearing B2B sales or business development experience, with a strong track record in prospecting and lead generation (not solely closing)
- Experience selling or generating opportunities in middle-market/large accounts (e.g., financial services, insurance, legal, high-tech) with longer, multi-stakeholder sales cycles
- Demonstrated cold-calling/prospecting discipline and comfort operating without inbound lead flow
- CRM proficiency (Salesforce or similar) and strong pipeline/activity management habits
- BA/BS degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
- Self-motivated, comfortable operating independently with minimal day-to-day oversight
- Willingness to travel up to 80% within assigned territory
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point
- A valid driver's license
