To meet our growing project workload and help us design and apply new approaches to the work we do, we are looking for experienced and enthusiastic Ecologists to join our Newcastle upon Tyne team. Your Role
  • Providing ecological input to a varied range of projects across different sectors.
  • Undertaking field surveys for a range of protected species and habitats and managing survey data.
  • Planning and coordinating field surveys, analysing and interpreting survey results using approaches such as biodiversity net gain or natural capital.
  • Designing and coordinating ecological mitigation works.
  • Authoring ecological reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impacts Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments, Precautionary Methods of Working, and more.
  • Authoring protected species license applications.
  • Managing work enquiries, preparing bids, and building client relationships.
  • Managing work enquiries and preparing bids under the guidance of more senior staff.
  • Collaborating with our Atkins

    Réalis multi-disciplinary teams and undertaking stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or be on the route of obtaining membership (Atkins

    Réalis to cover membership costs).
  • A degree in ecology, biology, zoology, or closely related field (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience in UK Habitat survey (Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 3+, or demonstrable experience equating to this level would be desirable) and protected species survey.
  • At least one protected species survey license (desirable but not essential).
  • A strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements, and best practice survey techniques.
  • Good understanding of BNG/ application of biodiversity enhancements (working project experience desirable).
  • Experience of producing ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal reports and Ecological Impact Assessment reports.
  • Strong collaborative behaviors to interface with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence.
