Provides bioinformatics leadership, analysis and software development support to enable interpretation of genomic data. Works with the Director of Bioinformatics to design and develop analytical solutions that integrate with and augment existing informatics capability within the genome center and the hospital. Works directly with medical and scientific staff to define computational strategies and assist with experimental design and hypothesis generation. Performs in-depth analysis for research projects and assist in the definition, validation and implementation of clinical applications.

Assists with personnel management as needed with a focus on leading efforts within a defined project or primary functional area of expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop bioinformatics capability including data analysis pipelines, knowledge bases, user interfaces, algorithms and databases to support clinical assays and research projects.
  • Perform supervised and independent scientific analysis utilizing expertise in analysis of genomic data and knowledge of best practices.
  • Lead bioinformatics efforts within a defined project or primary functional area of expertise.
  • Report research results. Assist with the development of the Children's Mercy Genome Center group into a recognized leader in the field of genomics capability and expertise associated with the research of pediatric medicine and disease. Communicate needs, issues and progress to relevant informatics and scientific stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or Biology and 5-7 years experience with Linux or other Unix operating systems;
    Java, C#, C++, Perl, Python or Ruby scripting languages.
  • Bachelor's Degree with 7 or more years experience accepted in lieu of a Master's degree.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $39.95/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
