Position Summary
This position is responsible for serving as a statewide technical expert in protecting groundwater quality and public health by applying geological, hydrogeological and groundwater contaminant analysis to support policy development and implementation of specific well construction and approval requirements in , Wis. Admin. Code. As the Private Water Hydrogeologist, this staff person will coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams to develop special well construction specifications to address site-specific groundwater and drinking water quality issues, to establish special well casing depth areas, and to support decisions for landfill variances and heat exchange projects.
It will also implement technical eligibility requirements of the state's Well Compensation program in , Wis. Adm. Code, and related statutes. Specifically, this position will provide scientific expertise on complex site issues, including emerging contaminants; will develop and implement strategies for community outreach and input as required on special casing requirement areas, with assistance from the outreach and communication staff;
will coordinate with divisional experts on cross-program issues (e.g. solid waste, remediation, etc.); and will assist with preparing and briefing internal and external stakeholders as appropriate.

Salary Information
Water Use Hydrogeologist Program Coordinator starting salary is between $38.00 - $43.00 / hour ($79,040.00 - $ 89,440.00) depending on qualifications. Plus, excellent benefits.
The classification is Hydrogeologist Program Coordinator which is in schedule-range 15 - 03. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

The position is responsible for statewide program administration. Occasional in-state travel will be required with occasional overnight stays.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following qualifications:
Experience and/or education in hydrogeology (particularly related to Wisconsin), chemistry, groundwater chemistry, geology, bacteriology, public health sanitation and microbiology.
Experience in hydrogeologic maps, water sampling results, well construction practices, and geologic data.
Experience in project management.
In addition, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications:
Experience interpreting and applying environmental laws or policies.
Experience interpreting Wisconsin hydrostratigraphy and its impact on groundwater quality and quantity conditions.
Bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, water resources, groundwater chemistry, geology or hydrogeology.
