Overview

The GW School of Engineering and Applied Science ( SEAS ) is recruiting for a Research Grants Associate ( RGA ) to work in a dynamic and growing research environment. This fully remote position focuses on providing research program support for GW Engineering, primarily post-award management on behalf of the research program or an initiative.

Responsibilities
  • Support the school’s research growth efforts by working closely with Principal Investigators, managing day-to-day operations through direct grant award and administrative contributions to ensure research success. This includes regular portfolio reviews, personnel effort actions, direct cost transfers, award modifications, expense approvals, and other actions for the awards in the assigned portfolio.
  • May be responsible for managing GW Engineering new award intake, subaward/subcontract establishment and invoice processing, summer salary processing and/or other special projects serving all portfolios.
  • For an RGA, oversee a portfolio of approximately 15-20 faculty (size balanced with complexity) under the umbrella of a larger portfolio overseen by a Research Grants Manager (RGM); work with the RGM to address issues requiring escalation.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility and outreach to other GW stakeholders to assist in maintaining standard operational efficiencies.
  • Candidates must be experienced in managing federal and non-federal awards and able to perform most duties with minimal supervision.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications
  • Administrative and financial experience in higher education research administration, research support programs or related function.
  • Experience managing grants and contracts from federal agencies, foundations, industry.
  • Experience with financial grants management.
  • Knowledge of enterprise software (e.g., Oracle, Banner, Huron’s my Research, Tableau) utilized at the university is a plus, as is experience using Airtable.
  • Research or grants education and/or certification is preferred ( CRA ).
  • Individuals with experience working in the sponsored research arena, especially experience with NIH, NSF and ONR grants are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong attention to detail, as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers and various office application software programs, to include spreadsheets and database management.
Compensation and Benefits

Hiring Range: $57,553.66 - $94,998.76
