Job Title
Term limited Executive Support Professional (EPS) I position funded through December 2028.
EligibilityOnly residents of the State of Colorado at the time of application are eligible.
Position OverviewNew position required to meet mandates of new Federal Grants (IIJA
03 Formula Grant Phase 2 and DOI IIJA Performance Matching Grant) which include scoring new sites, inspecting locations, and monitoring vegetation on Orphan Well locations. Primary duties performed in eastern Colorado counties.
- Conduct site inspections throughout the assigned regions and make real‑time decisions based on data gathered from site visits, location files, and local knowledge to determine safety or environmental concerns.
- Monitor and document vegetation for both pre‑work and post‑completion of Orphan Well Program project phases.
- Conduct environmental assessments of flora and fauna, soil and hydrological conditions, and identify plant communities (native, undesirable, noxious).
- Assign numerical values or responses for stormwater, weeds, wildlife/livestock/vegetation impact, future land use and disturbance areas to contribute to overall prioritization score.
- Communicate site conditions to Project Managers and other stakeholders across reclaim phases.
- Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to this position.
- OR a combination of related education and experience equal to four (4) years.
- Relevant degrees may include Restoration Ecology, Crop Science, or Natural Resources.
- Relevant experience may include oil and gas consulting, vegetation monitoring, or environmental sampling.
- Current or former state experience relevant to this position.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge or experience of the oil and gas industry.
- Experience with environmental sampling (air/methane, soil, water).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, especially Excel and Sheets.
- Education or experience with plants and plant identification.
- Experience interpreting rules, guidelines, legal documents, statutes, and policies.
- Experience working and traveling remotely.
- Experience converting technical content into plain language for diverse stakeholders.
- Customer service experience or previous public service experience.
- Hybrid:
Work from a home office conducting field work in assigned area with occasional in‑person meetings as directed.
- Must maintain residency in Colorado at time of application.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States; non‑resident sponsorship not provided.
- Drivers of state‑owned vehicles must maintain a valid driver license and safe driving record, and Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed per DNR Fleet standards.
