Provide assistance to the Regional Habitat Manager in carrying out the diverse programs of the Habitat Section. Lead at least one of the core programs of the section. Supervise a biologist in the section as well to ensure their success while developing skills to prepare for future management level positions.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as regional lead for 1 or more of the programs administered by the habitat section
- Supervise 1 or more employees of the habitat section
- Represent the Division on inter‑agency committees, and in state and community meetings.
- Fulfill some of the administrative rolls related to the following:
Writing and/or updating Wildlife Management Area management plans;
Administering grazing permits;
Administering other permits or COR's;
Championing real estate proposals;
Serving as liaison with local and county governments or other land management agencies;
Participate in and/or recommend land management decisions;
Assist in developing and monitoring habitat section budgets; etc.
- Bachelor's degree in wildlife managements, range science, restoration ecology, natural resources management, or a closely related field, or directly related work experience equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written communication
- Understanding of the core programs of the habitat section.
- Knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements of game and non-game wildlife species.
- Understanding of budgeting principles and the sources of habitat section budgets.
- Experience working in one or more of the core programs of the habitat section.
- Experience working in partnership with federal government, state and local governments, non‑governmental organizations, and sportsman’s groups.
- Experience performing various vegetation and wildlife monitoring techniques.
- Experience with the planning, design, and implementation of mitigation restoration projects including working knowledge of habitat restoration equipment and experience developing seed mixes.

Must be able to operate four‑wheel drive vehicles, OHV's and transport truck/trailers over unpaved roads; walk long distances across uneven terrain; lift up to 60 lbs.; work in extreme weather conditions. Non‑standard work schedule typical during field season. Some travel and overnight stays required.
