Position Summary
The Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center (VTC) of the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is accepting applications for a post‑doctoral research associate in transportation modeling and planning. The position is for two years (with a possibility of extension) and is grant‑funded. Remote work is allowed up to two days a week.
The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.
- Conduct transportation analysis and qualitative research, including designing and running focus groups.
- Work on multiple research assignments under Dr. Robert Noland, especially the Mobility Net project funded by the NSF, which involves engaging the transportation modeling and planning community through workshops, focus groups, and other venues.
- Provide support for additional research projects in transportation safety, travel behavior analysis, and survey research on transportation policies.
- PhD in urban planning, civil engineering, geography, urban informatics, or a related field with strong analytical skills.
- Advanced statistical analysis skills, proficiency in Stata or R, familiarity with Python, and experience with geographic information systems (GIS) software.
- Experience conducting qualitative research and facilitating focus groups.
- Knowledge of Git is a plus.
- Self‑sufficient, willing to learn new methods, and able to work independently.
- Experience contributing to interdisciplinary research initiatives, such as the Mobility Net project, and engaging stakeholders through workshops and community outreach.
- Background in transportation safety, travel behavior, or survey research.
- Salary: minimum $75,000 per calendar year; the final offer may vary based on qualifications and funding.
