Position: Officer 2 (Environmental Assessment Officer fisheries

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Environmental assessment Officer (fish monitoring) in northwest Wales. You will work as part of the Environmental Assessment and Advice Team. We monitor and assess the environment across Northwest Wales. We also provide technical monitoring advice. This role is split between office and field, with the main fieldwork season being June to October inc.

You will have a strong background in fisheries monitoring and have excellent data analysis and report-writing skills. You will be confident working outdoors, including working in water. You will be comfortable driving a variety of vehicles, including 4x4 trucks.

The types of activities you will undertake include:

  • Working with others to plan and deliver the annual electric fishing monitoring programme, including training new staff and managing kit maintenance.
  • Carrying out and supporting other fisheries activities across NRW
  • Archiving fish monitoring data on specified databases
  • Analysing and interpreting data and reporting on findings for statutory and other purposes such as Water Framework Directive, the Eels Regulations Directive, issues of local importance, producing evidence that informs the sustainable management of our natural resources.
  • Providing fisheries information to internal and external stakeholders including local fisheries groups
  • Producing a fisheries newsletter and contributing to Know Your River documents
  • Supporting incident response
  • Providing fish monitoring advice and guidance
  • You will be equally at home working alone or as part of a team

You will follow methods laid out in our guidance documents, including those relating to our Health and Safety and Quality Management Systems.

The Environmental Assessment and Advice team in northwest is part of the Operations Directorate. You will report directly to the team leader.
