Position Overview
EQA 9-P11:
Entry level position responsible for conducting administrative reviews of groundwater discharge permit applications and coordinating technical reviews related to groundwater discharge permits required by Section 3112 of Part 31, Water Resources Protection, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (NREPA).
EQA 12:
This position is responsible for reviewing, writing, and recommending issuance or denial of groundwater discharge permits for industrial, municipal, and commercial facilities that involve a complex/multifaceted review. It leads work group meetings with internal and external stakeholders, gives presentations to outside environmental groups, potential permit applicants, WRD management, and the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s Executive Office. It also trains and mentors new permit writers and develops guidance documents and infographics for local government officials, permit applicants, and company consultants to improve understanding of permit regulations and environmental and human health impacts related to groundwater discharges.
Work location will be Lansing, MI. However, selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person). Remote work must be within Michigan.
Education- Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, engineering, environmental studies and sustainability, physical sciences, resource development, or resource management.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of: biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, crop and soil science, ecology, engineering, environmental health, environmental science, environmental studies and sustainability, forest management, geology, meteorology, microbiology, physics, remote sensing, resource development, resource management, toxicology, or zoology.

No specific type or amount is required. - Environmental Quality Analyst 10:
One year of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 9. - Environmental Quality Analyst 11:
Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 10. - Environmental Quality Analyst 12:
Three years of professional experience equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Quality Analyst 11.
