Job Overview
A.E.W. LP, a limited partnership formed in 2017 by Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council member communities, seeks a full‑time Senior Wildlife Biologist to work in the Southern Interior or Lower Mainland of British Columbia. The role supports wildlife‑related projects to protect and advance Nlaka’pamux title and rights. It reports to the Director of Wildlife & Environment and may involve flexible work arrangements including remote work from Kamloops, BC.
Responsibilities- Lead design and implementation of biological programs.
- Recommend and implement population monitoring, habitat design, effectiveness monitoring, resource planning, and risk mitigation programs.
- Conduct assessments and author reports on wildlife populations and habitat impacts from environmental changes, human activities, and harvesting practices.
- Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to provide expert wildlife and habitat advice.
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate biologists, providing technical direction to field and office teams.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal environmental regulations through oversight and guidance.
- Develop comprehensive work plans, budgets, and timelines in response to proposals.
- Complete wildlife surveys (e.g., bats, amphibians, ungulates, breeding birds, raptors).
- Work in partnership with Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council members to ensure consistency of approaches and methodologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post‑secondary degree in Biology, Natural Resource Sciences, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Possession of or eligibility for registration as a Registered Professional Biologist.
- Minimum ten years of relevant professional experience, including fieldwork.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations.
- Excellent analytic and research skills with strong knowledge of scientific literature.
- Strong working knowledge of biostatistics and ability to apply, interpret, and present statistical analyses.
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental impact assessment and how development impacts terrestrial resource values.
- Experience designing and implementing scientific studies/field programs and managing field teams and wildlife baseline data collection.
- Ability to interpret data clearly and cohesively.
- Experience operating in a dynamic environment requiring flexibility and teamwork.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills (prioritizing, time management, record keeping, follow‑up).
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Adobe Acrobat; GIS and CAD considered assets. - Safety‑oriented, self‑motivated team player.
- Knowledge of WHMIS.
- Annual salary range $110,000–$125,000.
