We have a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious early-career forester to join our growing team as an Assistant Forester. This is a role for someone who wants to learn fast, contribute from day one, and build a career at a consultancy doing genuinely interesting work. Our pipeline is expanding across Scotland and we need people who are ready to get stuck in.
The role is based from our Perth office hub, serving Perth & Argyll and the west coast. We welcome full-time or part-time applications for this permanent post.
Our Assistant Foresters work as part of project teams, developing their technical skills and confidence across a wide range of forestry tasks. You’ll be involved across this range from early on, supported by an experienced consultant and mentor as you grow.
You will report to a Forestry Consultant who will oversee your project work and support your development day-to-day. Separately, a Mentor will also be in place to help you build your professional skills and navigate your ICF PME journey. We are a team that invests in the people who join it – this is a structured route into a project-leading role.
Keyresponsibilities
- Carrying out a range of project tasks including site surveys, habitat assessments, mapping, and document preparation, under the guidance of your line manager.
- Supporting operational supervision on site, learning to manage contractors and observe safe working practices.
- Keeping project records up to date in Asana, and reporting progress to your line manager and project team.
- Communicating with clients and stakeholders on day-to-day activities as your confidence and experience grows.
- Contributing your insight and ideas at company meetings and project scrums.
- A genuine interest in forestry and land management, with some practical experience in a woodland or land-based context.
- A relevant degree or qualification in forestry, environmental science, ecology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Be working towards or interested in pursuing professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF PME) – we will support you through this process.
- Preference for working for an ambitious, purpose driven consultancy.

- Not intimidated by learning new technology, a keen adopter of technological tools to help us do our work. Proficiency in the following tools would be ideal:
Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Asana, QGIS. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of what good communication means for our brand.
- Comfortable adapting plans when the real world requires.
- Able to carry out extended site visits on foot in remote locations and in all weather conditions.
- A full UK driving license is essential.
