About Tree Story

At Tree Story, we combine technical forestry expertise with a genuine passion for the natural world. We’re Scotland’s first B-Corp certified forestry consultancy — proud to be a business that is a force for good. We believe well-managed trees, woodlands, and forests make the world a better place.
Our work spans the full woodland lifecycle: strategic planning, woodland creation, maintenance, felling, harvesting, timber marketing, and nature markets including carbon and biodiversity credits. We operate according to the core values set out in our Woodland Charter, which you can read about here .

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious early-career forester to join our growing team as an Assistant Forester. This is a role for someone who wants to learn fast, contribute from day one, and build a career at a consultancy doing genuinely interesting work. Our pipeline is expanding across Scotland and we need people who are ready to get stuck in.

The role is based from our Perth office hub, serving Perth & Argyll and the west coast. We welcome full-time or part-time applications for this permanent post.

Our Assistant Foresters work as part of project teams, developing their technical skills and confidence across a wide range of forestry tasks. You’ll be involved across this range from early on, supported by an experienced consultant and mentor as you grow.

You will report to a Forestry Consultant who will oversee your project work and support your development day-to-day. Separately, a Mentor will also be in place to help you build your professional skills and navigate your ICF PME journey. We are a team that invests in the people who join it – this is a structured route into a project-leading role.

  • Supporting operational supervision on site, learning to manage contractors and observe safe working practices.

  • Communicating with clients and stakeholders on day-to-day activities as your confidence and experience grows.
  • Contributing your insight and ideas at company meetings and project scrums.

  • A relevant degree or qualification in forestry, environmental science, ecology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Be working towards or interested in pursuing professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF PME) – we will support you through this process.
