Overview
Mission:
Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through education, patient care, community service, research and technology development. The Medical School Office of Research supports investigators pursuing science to improve health and well‑being.
The primary mission of the University of Michigan Medical School Office of Research is to foster an environment of innovation and efficiency that serves the Medical School research community and supports biomedical science from insight to impact. The team strives to enhance the research enterprise, including maintaining an investigator‑focused infrastructure, facilitating and diversifying investigators’ avenues for funding, and streamlining research processes.
The Office of Research has units such as MICHR, CRAO, Fast Forward Medical Innovation, BRCF, IRB Med, and the Medical School Grant Services & Analysis Office, which provide support to position researchers for success. The Grant Services & Analysis Office handles the review of externally sponsored projects at the pre‑award stage and collaborates with units and project teams to address institutional, sponsor, and federal requirements.
- Conduct complete and final compliance reviews of Medical School external sponsor proposals for appropriate treatment of materials, equipment, effort, and other costs. Includes regular communication with all Medical School departments. This position will also electronically submit PHS proposals in eRPM through Grants.gov on behalf of ORSP for Medical School proposals.
- Function as a resource for department grant administrators regarding information about federal, state, and institutional rules and regulations governing externally sponsored projects. This person will be responsible for the resolution of departmental and university queries on Medical School policy for sponsored research.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years of experience in grant administration or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Knowledge of general terms and concepts of the field.
- Good computer skills with general knowledge in Excel, MS Word, and Acrobat.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial review calculations in previous experience and in the interview process.
Desired Qualifications
- Direct experience working with Reviewers in the Grant Services & Analysis Office and knowledge of the proposal review process.

- Modes of Work:
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. - Work agreements are reviewed annually and subject to change.
- Work Schedule:
Mon-Fri, 8-5 - Hybrid option: A majority of work can be completed off campus; occasional in‑office days for training, meetings, or team activities (currently 1–3 days per year).
