What you’ll be doingReporting to the Balfour Beatty Head of Sustainability:
Natural Environment and project leads, the Senior Site Ecologist will perform the following key activities:
- Lead on delivery of project ecological requirements.
- Develop and implement ecological management plans.
- Build and maintain relationships with regulators, clients and design teams, and internal teams.
- Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation and coach construction teams in applying controls and mitigations in pragmatic, cost-effective ways.
- Ensure the company environmental management system is maintained in line with changing standards and legislation and liaise with senior team lead on changes required.
- Lead investigations and report on ecological incidents.
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
- Excellent understanding of ecological legalisation for development
- Good level of commercial awareness
- Full driver’s licence and flexibility to travel
- Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
- Good understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment
- Literate in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
- Excellent communication skills
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject
- At least one protected species survey licence and/ or preferably experienced in badger mitigation
- Experience of working on large scale infrastructure construction projects
- Full CIEEM Membership
