Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) is a residential teaching facility located on Appledore Island, Isles of Shoals, Maine. The island field station operates seasonally from May to September, supporting students, faculty, visitors, and staff in a close‑knit, sustainable community. Room and board are provided for island staff. Living and working on a remote island is unique and requires support beyond one's typical job duties, including meal cleaning, transport of goods, and crew duties on vessels.
Teamwork and community involvement are integral to the SML experience.
