NMR Chemist Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated NMR Chemist to join a dynamic analytical research team supporting the characterization of synthetic polymer products throughout the product lifecycle. This role is responsible for performing Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) analyses to support new product development, product registrations, manufacturing investigations, field issue resolutions, extractables and leachables studies, and lifecycle management initiatives.
The NMR Chemist will work closely with cross-functional research, development, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to evaluate polymer composition, identify impurities and degradation products, and provide critical analytical insights that support business and technical objectives. This position offers exposure to products from early-stage research through commercial manufacturing and post-market support.
Key Responsibilities NMR Analysis & Scientific Support
+ Prepare samples and test articles for NMR analysis according to validated procedures.
+ Conduct routine and non-routine NMR testing following approved test methods and experimental designs.
+ Perform qualitative and quantitative characterization of synthetic polymers and associated materials.
+ Evaluate polymer composition, structural attributes, impurity profiles, and degradation pathways.
+ Identify and quantify degradation products, contaminants, and unknown components.
+ Support extractables and leachables studies through advanced NMR characterization techniques.
+ Investigate manufacturing, processing, and field-related product issues associated with chemical composition.
+ Generate and interpret spectral data to support research, development, regulatory, and manufacturing initiatives.
Data Analysis & Reporting
+ Analyze NMR data and prepare scientific summaries, technical reports, and study conclusions.
+ Accurately document laboratory activities in electronic or paper laboratory notebooks.
+ Enter test results into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
+ Maintain complete and compliant records of raw data, results, and supporting documentation.
+ Present analytical findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
Laboratory Operations
+ Conduct all testing in compliance with company SOPs, laboratory procedures, and quality requirements.
+ Routinely monitor laboratory inventory levels and place supply orders through approved vendors (e.g., VWR) to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
+ Perform regular laboratory housekeeping activities to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
+ Complete monthly laboratory safety inspections and document findings according to established procedures.
+ Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of NMR instrumentation and associated laboratory equipment.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
+ 2+ years of laboratory experience utilizing NMR spectroscopy (experience may vary based on education level).
+ Experience interpreting NMR spectra and applying spectroscopic principles to chemical characterization.
+ Strong understanding of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, and analytical techniques.
+ Experience documenting laboratory work and maintaining detailed scientific records.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and laboratory software systems.
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.

This is a Contract position based out of Raritan, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $42.00/hr.
