Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Chemist I performs accurate formulation and analytical tests in accordance with internal company procedures and external standards (ANSI, ASTM) or other accepted methods. The role involves developing and conducting complex chemical studies on organic and/or inorganic formulations, with independent judgment under supervision, and reporting and analyzing data.

Responsibilities
  • Design, Develop and Validate experiments to solve increasingly complex problems; review and perform competitive testing and analysis.
  • Maintain a clean, properly equipped laboratory and ensure instruments that require calibration/validation comply with procedures.
  • Comply with laboratory, company, state and federal safety regulations.
  • Provide product support by evaluating field complaints, assisting in evaluating product inconsistencies, and communicating results to R&D and cross-functional teams.
  • Assist in organizing and participating in field trials; interact with end-use customers and contractors to understand product usage, limitations and needs.
  • Assist and guide production scale-up of new products: write batching formulas, follow processes through to commercialization, and help determine quality control parameters for testing.
  • Document work using approved methods; summarize ongoing work and findings in department meetings and formal end reports.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    BA/BS in a Physical Science required;
    Chemistry preferred. MS in Physical Science or Chemistry a plus. Experience in a scientific laboratory is a plus.
  • Specialized

    Skills:

    Familiarity with patent research, invention disclosures, and industry publications; strong analytical ability and meticulous documentation.
  • Communication:
    Strong verbal and written communication; ability to present results clearly and concisely.
  • Analytical Ability:
    Ability to analyze data independently and apply statistical methods (e.g., DOE) to solve problems.
  • Work Style:
    Self-starter, able to multi-task, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and relevant software systems.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Lift and/or carry at least 50 pounds; push/pull 50 pounds; stand up to 50% of the day; sit up to 50% of the day; some domestic travel (
