RSK Biocensus is a friendly and supportive team of ecologists working on a wide range of projects across the UK. Our work spans multiple sectors, including development, construction and conservation projects with a focus on technical excellence, evidence-based decision making and practical, pragmatic solutions. Much of the day-to-day botany work involves plant identification, habitat classification, evaluation and assessment, ecological impact assessment, biodiversity net gain, and plans for construction, landscape, management and monitoring.
Our ecologists work as a nationwide team, and each ecologist has a unique set of skills and competencies. Though our ecologists are spread across the UK attached to local offices, you would be part of a supportive national team of botanists.

Ideally you will have knowledge or skills in the following areas:
- Identifying plants and classifying habitat and vegetation
- Evaluating species and habitat
- Assessing impacts and advising on mitigation
- Preparing clear and well-structured reports
- Contributing to management plans for construction, landscape, monitoring and restoration
- Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and advice
- Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues across the team
- You may have a technical specialism in a particular habitat or species group; management, creation or restoration.
- Previous, relevant experience in a similar role, ideally working in commercial consultancy, although this is not a necessity.
- Ideally holds FISC Level 4 or above.
- A relevant degree in botany or similar.
- Good team player, with the ability to work independently
- Enthusiasm, energy and drive to develop skills and deliver projects to the highest standard.
- Excellent report writing skills, including survey reports, EcIAs, HRAs and tenders.
- Full driving licence.
- Appropriate membership of CIEEM (dependent on grade, or to have eligibility if not currently held).
We place a strong emphasis on creating a supportive working environment and are committed to helping our staff grow professionally. You’ll be expected to contribute to our Botany and Habitats Technical Excellence Group, which builds technical skills through regular webinars, field training days, and skills sessions.
You’ll also help provide informal learning and connections through drop-in sessions and online discussions, where colleagues can share knowledge and seek advice. Depending on your level of expertise, you may be involved with providing formal training and accreditation, which includes delivering a Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) test as well as providing tutor support for colleagues undertaking the BSBI Identiplant course.
