Senior​/Principal Ecologist

• Client facing and client interaction – demonstrate a deep understanding of client requirements, engage other business units to secure support, and develop relationships and work proposals.
• Lead on nationally important infrastructure projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
• Plan and conduct field surveys; analyse and interpret survey results with a strong focus on bat ecology.
• Design and coordinate ecological mitigation measures.
• Author and review ecological reports and licence applications.
• Manage projects, build client relationships and deliver work bank responsibilities.
• Engage cross‑discipline activities, support bidding, and drive business development to win new work in the region.
• Identify, raise, manage and mitigate risks within a Project/Framework environment.
• Provide innovation across projects and within the ecology team, coaching and mentoring staff to develop their careers.

• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent, and chartership (CEcol or CEnv) or actively working towards this. Membership costs will be covered by the Company.
• Strong report‑writing skills:
  Preliminary Ecological Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Chapters, and Habitats Regulations Assessments including Appropriate Assessment.
• Experience with Protected Species survey licences and, desirably, complex bat impact assessments/licensing.
• Working knowledge of UK habitat survey, habitat condition assessments, and the Defra Biodiversity Metric, with demonstrable experience in Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
• Technical lead, quality assurance and project management experience covering technical, financial, and quality assurance aspects.
• Experience on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and familiarity with the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.
• Full UK/EEC driving licence.
• A desire to contribute to the growth and development of the team.
• Ability to coach, mentor and support colleagues.

This role may require security clearance. Offers of employment will be contingent on obtaining the relevant level. The vetting process requires proof of UK residency for five years or longer.
