The Intermediate Fish & Wildlife Specialist is integral to our Environmental Division's continued growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for fish and wildlife field work, the ability to lead crews, and train junior staff in field data collection, safety best practices, and other skills necessary to succeed as an environmental consultant.
The WorkHybrid Office (20%) / Field (80%)
Focus- Perform field and office tasks on oil & gas, pipeline, infrastructure, watercourse crossing, and renewable energy projects as part of a multi‑disciplinary, virtual team.
- Field shifts, typically lasting between 2-10 days, though longer shifts may be required. Overnight stays in hotels or camps may also be necessary.
- Projects are generally located in Central to Northern Alberta.
- Conduct environmental field data collection and construction monitoring activities.
- Be prepared to work in remote locations and challenging conditions like muddy roads, steep terrain, dense vegetation, and snowy environments.
- Carry field equipment such as soil sampling tools and other required gear (Up to 30lb).
- Expertise in the following areas is required:
- Winter wildlife sweeps (identified dens and tracks)
- Fish salvage
- Fish and fish habitat assessments
- Water quality monitoring (turbidity)
- Environmental inspections
- Wetland/aquatic assessment
- Construction monitoring
- Pipeline HDD
- Vehicle Operation:
Drive light‑duty trucks, ATVs, UTVs, and trailers. A valid driver’s license is required. - Field Tools:
Use navigational and data collection tools such as Garmin GPS, Avenza Collector, etc.

Collaboration:
Collaborate with other CORE team members and client field representatives as required. - Communication:
Maintain strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information effectively.
- Administrative Work:
Complete office reporting, QA/QC, data entry, and submission of field data on time. - Meetings and Training:
Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
- Excluding vacation or allotted personal days, Field staff must be available for field work up to 20 days per month, including up to 2 weekends per month.
- Excluding vacation or allotted personal days, 10‑11 days off can be anticipated per month (i.e., 2‑3 more days than other roles).
- Professional Biologist designation or ability to achieve a designation within 6 months.
- Self‑declaration as a QAES.
- A diploma or bachelor’s degree in conservation biology, land reclamation, natural resource management or forestry.
- 5‑9 years of relevant experience.
- Electrofishing certification.
- Experience as a Crew Lead.
- Intermediate level reporting abilities.
- Positive demeanor.
- The ability to liaise with clients and make professional in‑field decisions.
- A love for being on the road and working in both natural and construction environments is essential.
- Physically fit with the ability to walk extended distances in challenging field conditions.
- This is a hybrid office & field position, which includes working in a virtual environment from your home office as well as 2‑10 day field shifts, as the need arises.
