About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People review model outputs, prepare examples, evaluate accuracy, and provide feedback so AI systems can produce more reliable and useful results. In this role, your spreadsheet expertise will help assess AI-generated formulas, workflows, analysis, and explanations.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI training through structured evaluation and written feedback.
  • Use specialized Excel knowledge in remote, flexible work that can complement other professional or personal commitments.
The Role

Open Train is seeking an Excel Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated spreadsheet work and trainer QA output across Excel and spreadsheet AI training projects. You will assess formula correctness, logic, data-analysis accuracy, model structure, clarity, reproducibility, formatting, instruction-following, and rubric adherence.

The role also includes communicating Excel standards, supporting contributor onboarding, maintaining documentation, identifying recurring quality issues, and helping improve QA processes. This is an intermediate-level, part-time contractor opportunity for candidates in the United States, with a commitment of 20+ hours per week and pay of $55 per hour.

  • Engagement:
    Contractor and part time
  • Location:

    United States
  • Language:
    English
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $55 per hour
What You’ll Do

You will combine hands-on spreadsheet review with quality leadership and contributor support. Your feedback should be precise, practical, and grounded in project guidelines and reliable Excel practices.

  • Review AI-generated Excel formulas, spreadsheet workflows, financial models, data-cleaning steps, pivot-table guidance, charts, and explanations.
  • Evaluate trainer and QA output against project guidelines and quality standards.
  • Communicate guideline changes and Excel-specific standards to contributors.
  • Answer questions about formulas, references, lookup logic, dynamic arrays, pivot tables, Power Query, modeling assumptions, and rubric interpretation.
  • Create Excel documentation, style guides, examples, trackers, FAQs, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
  • Run onboarding and training calls for Excel contributors.
  • Flag misleading analysis, fragile spreadsheet logic, incorrect formulas, and risky business or financial assumptions.
  • Improve QA processes based on recurring spreadsheet-quality gaps.
Required Qualifications

Candidates should have strong Excel analysis and spreadsheet QA experience, along with the judgment to distinguish reliable spreadsheet logic from work that could mislead users or undermine an analysis. Clear English communication and an organized approach are important for feedback, documentation, calibration, and onboarding.

  • Identify incorrect formulas, wrong references, circular logic, poor assumptions, missing edge cases, fragile models, misleading charts, and incomplete explanations.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, FILTER, SORT, UNIQUE, LET, and LAMBDA.
  • Use or understand Excel tools including Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA or macros, Solver, and scenario modeling.
  • Communicate clearly in written English.
  • Lead or support remote teams of trainers, analysts, reviewers, finance professionals, educators, or QA professionals.
  • Stay highly organized when managing trackers, FAQs, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
Helpful Background

A degree or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, business, data analytics, economics, statistics, operations, or information systems may be helpful. Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, spreadsheet QA, or rubric-based review is also useful.

  • Strong Excel and spreadsheet-quality judgment
  • Experience coaching, reviewing, or supporting remote contributors
  • Interest in applying spreadsheet expertise to AI evaluation and training
