Stantec is recruiting for three part‑time on‑call Archaeological Field Technicians for projects throughout the country. Candidates should be located within commuting distance of either New Cumberland, Pennsylvania or Hampton, Virginia.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Survey transects up to fifteen miles in length daily
- Recordation and delineation of archaeological sites
- Completion of archaeological site forms, site sketches, profiles, logs, and other paperwork
- Excavation of shovel test pits, test units, trenches or other excavation as needed
- Identification and description of soil profiles, horizons, artifacts, and cultural features
- Artifact organization, processing, and inventory
- Excellent written, oral, and computer skills
- Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Periodic travel required, including international travel
- Must be able to work in project locations remote from the home office for extended periods with short intervals between deployments
- Must possess a valid Real r’s license with clean record
- Drug screen required for this position
- BA degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
- Completion of an archaeological field school or at least one year of professional archaeological experience (no academic experience fulfills this requirement)
- Experience in Mid‑Atlantic archaeology preferred
- Experience in Archaeological Survey
- Experience completing archaeological forms and paperwork
- Experience identifying soil horizons, cultural features, and artifacts
- Experience organizing and inventorying data
- Experience using ArcGIS Online and associated applications such as Survey 123 and Field Maps
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- May need to walk up to 15 miles a day in rough and uneven terrain and transport up to 35 pounds of gear
