Environmental Officer - Mining

About the Role

Our client seeks a dedicated Environmental Officer to join their team supporting operations in Centurion, Gauteng . This role is crucial for ensuring that all mining activities are conducted in strict compliance with environmental legislation and sustainability best practices. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental management plans, conducting impact assessments, and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship throughout the organization's mining operations .

This position requires a proactive individual who can balance operational needs with ecological responsibility.

• Develop and implement comprehensive Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining projects.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
• Monitor environmental parameters such as water quality, air emissions, and waste management.
• Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory authorities and internal management.
• Investigate environmental incidents, implement corrective actions, and report findings.
• Provide environmental training and awareness programs to site personnel.

• Degree in Environmental Science, Management, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in environmental management, with a focus on the mining sector.
• Thorough knowledge of South African environmental laws and regulations pertaining to mining.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and monitoring techniques.
• Strong reporting and communication skills.
• Proficiency in environmental management software is advantageous.
