Job Description And Duties

The Air Monitoring Branch (AMB) of the Monitoring and Laboratory Division (MLD) has an opening for a highly motivated Air Pollution Specialist (APS) at our Sacramento office. AMB is responsible for operating and maintaining air monitoring stations throughout California that provide ambient air quality data to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) stakeholders including researchers and the public.

Under the supervision of the Air Resources Supervisor I (ARS I), the APS in AMB will apply scientific methods and principles to conduct ambient air monitoring at assigned sites, in support of CARB's air pollution programs. Incumbents: design, use, and evaluate air monitoring procedures; collect air pollutant samples and monitoring data; operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot air monitoring equipment, conduct and evaluate air monitoring programs;

and understand and comply with both Federal and State air quality monitoring requirements. Incumbents will be responsible for supporting Air Monitoring North Section (AMNS) air monitoring operations, special projects, and stakeholders from CARB and partner districts with process improvements, standard operation, staff training, and technical consultation.

Incumbents may also represent CARB in various joint operations, group presentations, share technical expertise, answer inquiries, prepare project protocols and project reports, and be responsible to correspond both internally and outside CARB. To additionally support the agency's mission and goals, the ARE will work with management and manufacturers to evaluate new technologies to improve ambient monitoring capabilities to qualify/quantify the extent of pollutants in California.

The home office for this position will be in Sacramento, California.
