Remote Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Remote Environmental Scientist to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations across their mining projects. This role is vital for maintaining the company's commitment to sustainable practices and responsible resource development. You will analyze environmental data, develop mitigation strategies, and prepare reports for regulatory bodies. Working from home, you will collaborate with site teams and external consultants to manage environmental impact and promote ecological stewardship in the Western Cape region and beyond.

• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and audits for mining projects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans (EMPs) and monitoring programs.
• Analyze environmental data (water quality, air emissions, biodiversity) and report findings.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
• Advise project teams on best practices for environmental protection and rehabilitation.
• Liaise with government agencies, stakeholders, and community groups on environmental matters.

• MSc or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, particularly within the mining sector.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental laws and regulations.
• Experience with environmental modeling and reporting software.
• Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
• Proven ability to manage projects and work effectively in a fully remote capacity.
