About the Role
Our client is seeking a knowledgeable Petroleum Geochemist to enhance their understanding of source rocks, oil, and gas migration pathways in the North West region. This role is crucial for assessing exploration potential and de-risking prospects by applying advanced geochemical techniques. You will analyze samples, interpret complex datasets, and integrate findings with geological and geophysical interpretations. The ideal candidate possesses a strong scientific background and a passion for unraveling the chemical complexities of hydrocarbon systems, contributing vital insights to exploration strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze geochemical data from rock samples, oils, and natural gases to assess source rock maturity, richness, and hydrocarbon type.
- Interpret isotopic and molecular data to determine migration pathways, mixing histories, and reservoir filling processes.
- Calibrate geochemical data with basin modeling and seismic interpretations to define petroleum systems.
- Develop and manage geochemical databases and contribute to prospect evaluations.
- Collaborate with exploration teams, providing expert geochemical insights to guide exploration efforts.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in petroleum geochemistry and analytical methodologies.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, or a related Earth Science field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in petroleum geochemistry, with a focus on exploration applications.
- Proficiency in techniques such as GC-MS, GC-FID, IRMS, and Rock-Eval pyrolysis.
- Strong understanding of organic matter kinetics, basin modeling, and petroleum systems analysis.
- Excellent analytical and interpretative skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings effectively.
- Experience working in a hybrid environment is beneficial for collaboration within the Mahikeng area.
