Position SummaryThe Project Scientist (Temp-to-Hire) conducts field-based environmental due diligence and/or regulatory across multiple market sectors. This role collects and analyzes site data, performs field sampling, and drafts technical reports under the guidance of senior staff. Requires 0-1 years of experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Travel to project locations to take detailed notes and photographs of sites (typically 3-4 days per week)
- Conduct interviews with site contacts, regulators, and other stakeholders in person, by phone, and by email
- Order and analyze government database records related to environmental conditions
- Review local, state and federal databases
- Review of subcontractor reports for accuracy of scope of work for submission to regulatory agencies
- Draft standardized reports synthesizing findings from field work, interviews, and historical/regulatory research
- Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on deliverables to the satisfaction of management and clients
- Complete requested revisions and submit final reports within pre-established timelines
- Compare analytical contaminant data to applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards
- Maintain accurate field notes, documentation, and project files in accordance with company standards
- Comply with all site-specific and company health and safety protocols
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to work-product quality
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
- Good computer skills, including proficiency with standard office and reporting software
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines
- State specific certifications
- Field sampling of potentially contaminated subsurface media (soil, groundwater, soil vapor) and/or indoor air
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Environmental Science, Geology, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources and Conservation, Geography, or a related field
- Valid driver's license required
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on uneven outdoor terrain, construction sites, and industrial/commercial properties
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods while driving, drafting reports, or reviewing records
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., sampling equipment, coolers, field gear)
- Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate field equipment, sampling tools, cameras, and computers
- Sufficient visual acuity to read maps, historical records, small print, and computer screens, and to identify site conditions and hazards
- Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions and safety warnings in field environments
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, safety glasses, hard hats, and steel-toed boots, as required by site conditions
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and uneven or hazardous terrain
- This is a remote/in-office, field-based position; work is performed at client sites, in vehicles while traveling, and from a home office for report writing and administrative tasks
