Location3520 W Oxford Avenue, Denver, CO 80236. Full‑time & part‑time, on‑site. In‑person position requiring shift work.
Description Of JobThe Safety Department maintains the safety and security of the Ft. Logan campus. Duties include supporting clinical staff, managing aggressive patients, monitoring security, and responding to emergency incidents.
Job Duties- Safety and Support Services:
- Respond to hospital staff requests for assistance.
- Perform supportive actions and approved physical intervention techniques.
- Maintain safety and security during psychiatric emergencies and non‑emergency situations.
- Use judgment and emotional control in evaluating risk; debrief and defuse incidents.
- Use Verbal Defense Interventions (VDI) and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) skills in interactions.
- Support patient transport when appropriate.
- Patrol and Observation / Rounding:
- Provide security through patrol and observation to detect, prevent, and control incidents.
- Document reports of criminal activity.
- Provide traffic surveillance and parking control.
- Perform routine physical checks and monthly safety inspections of clinical units.
- Identify violations and hazards; initiate corrective actions.
- Conduct monthly fire drills and evaluate staff training.
- Transports:
- Escort clients and staff to and from locations on and off hospital grounds.
- Enter security‑sensitive areas with or without staff assistance.
- Police Liaisons:
- Communicate with other police agencies as liaison between Ft. Logan and police/sheriff departments.
- Other Duties:
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of professional experience related to the duties.
- Physical ability to work on feet, climb stairs, and physically intervene with assaultive patients.
- Valid, unrestricted CO driver’s license.
- Minimum age 21; no felony convictions or domestic violence history.
- Full background screening required (multiple checks).
- College education in behavioral health, justice, or related field.
- Experience with adjudicated/detained mental health populations in secure facilities.
- Experience facilitating psycho‑educational groups.
- Experience with adolescent trauma.
- Leadership experience (mentoring, coaching).
- Experience with verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques.
- State service experience.
- Conflict management skills.
- Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making.
- Self‑control, composure, and stress resilience.
- Clear verbal communication and respectful willingness to communicate.
- Ability to identify hazards and communicate pertinent information.
- Accurate written communication of events.
Shift work includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may be 8, 10, or 12 hours. Employees may be required to report during inclement weather.
