This is accomplished by ensuring Asset Protection (AP) and security policies are implemented in our Distribution Centers (DCs) to protect associates as well as managing shrink due to theft, fraud, and damage resulting from carelessness or disregard, through use of policies, technology, and existing resources.
Verifies that locations are following company-wide and local AP/security policies and procedures to safeguard company associates, contractors, visitors, product, and property for UNFI. This role will be a key leader collaborating closely with General Managers, DC Operations, Human Resources, Inventory Control, Facilities Managers, and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Food Safety Partners.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct timely and thorough investigations into company losses, threats, theft, workplace violence, and other sensitive matters and coordinating with Human Resources and Legal as appropriate. Completing timely and thoroughly documenting AP/security incidents into written reports and the case management system.
- Conduct on-site security assessments and provides recommendations to reduce or eliminate risk exposure/gaps for DCs and domicile locations; participates in security planning for company events (warehouse, office, and transportation environments) and work with DC leaders to implement these recommendations and strategies.
- Serve as AP department liaison and security management subject matter expert to promote and execute company-wide security policies and training to safeguard people, product, and property due to threats, theft, vandalism, or disasters.
- Assist with managing the security equipment at each company DC and domicile, including security cameras and monitors, alarm systems, electronic door access control, and other technology to protect associates and physical assets.
- Develop strong partnerships with DC stakeholders and law enforcement to help develop and investigate leads and serve as a company representative during court proceedings when necessary.
- Hire, train, and manage Asset Protection Partners (when applicable) and assist with more complex security issues and investigations.
- Train and orient management and supervisory associates in security protocols and Workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/ Certifications/or Equivalent combination of education training and experience:
- Bachelor's in science degree in a related field (or) 5 years relevant experience required
- Certification in interviewing techniques preferred
- Experience in investigation, interviewing, and report writing
- Conducting security threat assessments
- Thorough knowledge of industrial security practices and technology
- Experience managing AP/security for multiple locations and personnel
- Well organized
- Creative and self-motivated
- Project management and training skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Skilled with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available
Hybrid Role:
- This position follows a hybrid schedule working in office () days per week. The acceptable split between onsite and remote work is determined by the manager. Hybrid associates may choose to work from an office on a more frequent basis than required.
- Travel is required up to (50-80) % for this position.

- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in the completion of job duties.
